Mechanical Engineer

Full time (40 hours per week), UK Braintree

Bring the wide-ranging mechanical engineering skills necessary to keep our cold storage site and its infrastructure in optimum condition.

The Thermotraffic Group, a 100% subsidiary of Nichirei Corporation, is renowned for its global expertise in providing tailored solutions and complex services for the temperature-controlled transport, mainly in the food sector. Within Thermotraffic, Norish is a UK-based, multi-temperature warehousing and logistics business providing services to importers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and distributors.

This requires us to operate and maintain advanced Cold Store infrastructure to the highest levels of efficiency and Health & Safety. Is this something you can help us to deliver as a proven Mechanical Engineer with a general and specialized knowledge of engineering and facilities maintenance? Can you ensure a safe, clean and smooth-running site while guiding junior employees and applying rigorous attention to detail?  If so, please read on to find out more about a role in which you will be highly valued by your colleagues and Norish.

Safety and excellence
Your core task in this Mechanical Engineer role is to monitor and maintain the Cold Store Building, its refrigeration plant, racking, electrical and other services to agreed standards. In doing so you deliver excellent standards of housekeeping to the levels required by Norish and their customers. Needless to say, you manage all work in accordance with the Health & Safety Policy and safe systems of work.

Daily jobs include:

  • Maintaining optimum conditions of the refrigeration plant, including engine room, condensers and evaporators and fans;
  • Carrying out planned maintenance programmes;
  • Ensuring that mobile and static racking and ancillary equipment is fully operational and kept in good order;
  • Maintenance of store buildings, fences and yard;
  • Ad hoc repairs and odd jobs across the Cold Store.

In order to achieve this, you supervise specialist contractors. You also keep comprehensive up-to-date records of all engineering and related activity, ensuring that it conforms to all Company, Health and Safety and statutory requirements. In addition, you occasionally provide support at other Norish sites and deputise for other site engineers in their absence. When necessary you perform out of hours call outs to attend to the refrigeration plant racking and to take action to restore normal operational conditions.

You report to the Site Manager on day-to-day issues and to the Chief Engineer on all technical matters.
