Our understanding of sustainability: mindful and responsible action

As an internationally operating logistics company, we, at Thermotraffic, are aware of our corporate responsibility. For this reason, we have been committed to ecologically and socially responsible corporate management for many years. We focus on the key ingredients in our business activities: our employees and the environment.

Our aspiration goes beyond business figures and short and medium term business goals: We think long-term and, thus, want to enable future generations to have a liveable future. We consistently align our corporate decisions with this basic principle.

Sustainable management with the ZNU standard

We want to achieve this goal with the holistic sustainability management system of the Center for Sustainable Corporate Management (ZNU) at the University of Witten/Herdecke. One of our main emphases is to reduce our CO2 emissions as much as possible. However, the certification according to the ZNU standard goes beyond the reduction of emissions. It also includes aspects such as fair competition, human rights, occupational safety, regional commitment, and fair value chains. Its implementation takes place step by step and by means of measurable, continuous measures.

Also in the future: Thermotraffic as a reliable partner

We pursue our sustainability commitment, because we are convinced of it and thereby ensure that we will continue to be a reliable and recognized partner for our stakeholders in the future. At the same time, we expect our business partners to support us in terms of a holistic approach to sustainability so that we can jointly contribute to sustainable change.

Our goals

Environment
We have already achieved an important goal together with the Lean and Green initiative. Since 2014, Thermotraffic has been part of the process for a greener Logistics – with success: Between 2014 and 2019, we gradually reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by a total of 30%. For the effective implementation of our measures we were awarded the Lean and Green 1st Star by GS1 Germany.

>> Our next goal is the climate neutrality of our company by 2030 (Scopes 1+2). In order to achieve it, we pursue a consistent strategy to reduce emissions from our business activities as far as possible or to prevent them in the first place. An important sub-goal of this process is improving the carbon footprint of our trailers. For this, we want to reduce the diesel-powered cooling hours of our trailers and we will instead increase the electric cooling hours proportionately by 30% by 2026.
At the moment, this is not yet possible. In 2021 and 2022, we were unable to achieve our goal of increasing electric cooling hours as planned. This is primarily due to the Corona situation/the Russian-Ukrainian war and the associated disrupted supply chains, resulting in serious supply bottlenecks and resource shortages and thus the more difficult development/expansion of a charging infrastructure.

In order to achieve our target by 2026, we will take complementary measures.

However, at the moment logistics that are completely emission-free are not yet possible.

We are therefore also aiming for a continuous increase in our annual compensation for unavoidable emissions from 2026 onwards.

Economy

As a service provider, quality is our top priority. With regular customer satisfaction surveys, we ensure that we are on the right track. The customer satisfaction survey conducted in 2023 once again proved that our customers recognize our efforts. On the school grading scale, we received a score of 1.70. Our aim is to further maintain this high level of customer satisfaction (at least a score of 2.0 on the school grading scale).

Social affairs
Our employees are most important for us at Thermotraffic: if they are satisfied, we as a company can continue to develop positively. For this reason, it is particularly important to us that our employees like working for us and feel comfortable - and thus less likely seek a job change. In order to measure employee satisfaction and to set ourselves a goal, we therefore use the fluctuation rate. Our goal is to keep the value constantly below one percent. This target was already achieved in 2021 (0.79%) and was again slightly reduced in 2022 to 0.78%.
